After a recent remodeling of the house, this once-loved traditional garden does not reflect the modern tastes of the client. A complete re-design was required to bring the whole garden into use and to reflect the contemporary style of the interior of the house.
The steep sloping site presents an opportunity to introduce spaces at different levels and the existing semi-circular terrace leading from the main living space influences the circular layout.
A sloping path leads around a circular lawn to a small patio area, perfect for catching the early-morning sun over breakfast. A shallow rill leads around the opposite side of the lawn, falls and runs under a small bridge, to lap at the edge patio, before falling again into a circular pool in the lower lawn. The path leads through the pergola, drawing the visitor down shallow steps to the lower lawn where a bench sits in front of a curved beech hedge.
