Why choose Cultivate Design
Who we are...
Cultivate Design is an award-winning garden design practice, passionate about working with nature to create uplifting, personal spaces which provide sanctuary and an improved quality of life.
What we are thinking...
The aim of the practice is to create beautiful, yet practical designs developed from the needs and desires of the client. We believe that a thoughtfully designed garden has the power to enhance or even change lives.
Each project is approached with an objective, open mind. Time is taken to understand your requirements and together we will work to create your dream space.
Cultivate Design focuses on sustainable practices and self-sufficiency and hopes to encourage and inspire a love of nature. We can offer expert advice on vegetable production, and how to make best use of your seasonal produce in the kitchen.
A little bit more about Cultivate Design...
Cultivate Design was started by Jennifer Huckstep and is based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. With a background in Fine Art, specialising in sculpture & photography, Jennifer pursued a career in London before qualifying as a garden designer and setting up her own practice.
A deep personal interest in self-sufficiency led Jennifer to study horticulture at the highly-regarded Capel Manor College. Building on her background in Art & Design, Jennifer continued on to study Garden & Planting Design at Capel and was awarded Best Student in her final year.
Jennifer was announced as winner of the Garden Designer of the Year competition at Grand Designs Live at London's Excel in 2016. The competition was judged by a panel led by Kevin McCloud, and including leading garden designers James Alexander Sinclair and Alan Gardner (The Autistic Gardener). On presenting the award, Alan Gardner commented that the Work-Life Balance design was "faultless".
