Family Garden

This undeveloped, bare site was one of the final stages of an extensive refurbishment to this large family home. The family, with two teenage children, wanted space for three generations of the family to entertain and relax in.

Areas were defined for entertaining and relaxing. A large arbour was designed to provide a shaded dining space with level access to the rest of the garden, and has been planted with climbing roses & clematis to create a scented retreat. The tumbled limestone paving provides a warm, classic feel, reinforced by the use of timber planters.

The patio leads onto the lawn area with a large swing seat surrounded by soft scented planting. A small raised vegetable bed was created to encourage food production. If successful, the plot can then expand to the neighbouring beds.

The same tumbled limestone is used to create a terrace in front of the new studio at the rear of the garden, with wide bi-fold doors to be thrown open in warmer weather.

All the planting has been selected with an emphasis on attracting wildlife into the garden, with scented flowers and berries throughout the year.
