Accessible Spaces

This garden needed to be redeveloped to accommodate the needs of two young children.  An innovative solution was required to encourage independent exploration and play in a safe, but stimulating environment.

A level access from the house to a patio with family dining area was created, from which a sweeping ramp leads to the upper level of the garden, allowing for wheelchair access to the lawn play area.  A stainless steel orb & disk water fountain feeds a shallow rill running alongside the ramp to stimulate movement and introduce gentle sounds, creating a calming atmosphere.

A mid-level bench seating area provides a central viewpoint in order to maintain supervision of the whole garden space.
